Rutba People on film: leave, the time clock, the pay run and the hiring board
A four minute film follows Wrenmoor Garden Centre, an invented business with a nursery and a cafe, through a leave approval, a tablet paired as the staff clock, a clock-in that reaches HR at once, the payroll, a payslip and a Christmas vacancy.

Rutba People keeps employee records, attendance, leave and payroll in one place, so hours worked turn into pay without being typed twice. The film below shows it at Wrenmoor Garden Centre, which we invented: a garden centre with its own plant nursery and a cafe beside the shop.
Rutba People: your team, paid and looked after (3:42).
The team at a glance
The HR start page counts the team, shows who is in today and who is on leave, and how many requests wait for a decision. Below it is the shape of the business by department, and two weeks of attendance beside every leave request on file, each chart counted from the records. A cafe worker’s three days in November are approved with one press, and the approved list shows the name of the person who decided.

On the clock
Rutba Time Clock turns a tablet on the wall into the staff clock, using a badge or a PIN, with no fingerprints and no location tracking. Pairing gives the tablet its own credential, so nobody’s account is left signed in on it. A supervisor without her badge taps in her employee number and PIN, and one press puts her on the clock. In HR her attendance is already there, written by the clock as she clocked in.
Workforce is where line managers run the week: punches become attendance and timesheets, which move from submitted to approved. Once payroll has paid a period its timesheets are locked, so paid hours cannot quietly change, the subject of an earlier post.
Pay
Every pay run is on file month by month with its cost before and after deductions. A run is created, previewed, processed and paid, and a paid run stays exactly as it was paid. Each person’s payslip comes out of the run, and staff read their own in self-service, with every line explained, instead of asking HR for a copy.
Hiring and the year ahead
Christmas is the garden centre’s busiest season, so Recruit has open vacancies, each with its own board from application to hire. When an applicant moves to screening after a phone call, the move goes on her record with the name of the person who made it and the reason; nothing on the board ranks people. Talent holds the year’s reviews and goals, every goal linked to one of the business’s objectives.
