Rutba

Rutba Office · free and open source

Seven office apps. One download. Nothing to sign up for.

Mail, documents, spreadsheets, slides, pictures, image editing and video — on a desktop engine we wrote ourselves, reading the Microsoft formats and the Outlook archives you already have. It works with the network switched off, and there is no account to make.

Presentation

.pptx — read, edit, render, present — reading .odp

Pictures

Every common image format, EXIF, orientation, and PDFs

Image

Crop, correct, annotate, export — your original is never touched

Video

Trim and export, with no ffmpeg and nothing native to install

The obvious question

Why would a business-software company give this away?

The engine already existed

Rutba Workspace needed to read and write .docx and .xlsx without damaging them, so that engine got built. A desktop suite is a better use of it than a drawer.

Every file it opens is a test

A format engine is only as good as the number of real documents it has met. Thousands of people opening their own awkward spreadsheets in it is worth more to us than a licence fee for the desktop half.

Published, so it can be checked

Under the AGPL, with a commercial licence for anyone embedding it. Software that claims to send nothing anywhere should be readable by the person deciding whether to believe that.

Came for the free suite and run a business? Mail at your own domain, files, documents, chat, meetings and phone — each logging back to the customer or order it concerns — are what Rutba sells.
