Rutba Office 2.1: faster video, and a suite everyone can use

Video now writes its own MP4 using the computer’s hardware, so a minute of 1080p exports in about half a minute on our reference laptop. In Image a selection is kept in the project, a mask moves with its layer, and words are typed straight onto the picture. Every app was audited for accessibility and works from the keyboard alone, with a screen reader and in Windows High Contrast. An update no longer stops with “Uninstaller error 2” while Rutba Office is still closing.

Presentations and Worksheets now redact and inspect a file as Documents does, a slide show can be drawn on with ink kept as PowerPoint keeps it, deck comments take mentions, and the dark theme was measured for readable text in every app. PDF’s Find marks the right word on a scan. After seventy numbered releases since 1.0.0 on 8 September, the release after 1.51 is 2.0. It is a new number for the same free beta for Windows: installed copies are offered it as they were every 1.x release, with no account, and files and settings stay as they were.

Rutba Office 1.51: receipts and invoices read on your own computer

Worksheets turns receipts and invoices into a row each, Mail shows an attached invoice’s total and due date, and PDF turns a scanned form’s tick boxes into real check boxes, in six languages with nothing uploaded. A figure goes in unmarked only when the page’s own sums agree. Six new guides on office.rutba.io cover redacting a PDF, searchable scans, receipts, hidden data in Word files, signing PDFs and Word forms.

Every suite app now builds as one image

The 46 apps of the business suite are compiled into one image in under twelve minutes, where 46 separate builds took 38, and run in 14 containers instead of 46. Nothing changes for anybody using them: the addresses are the same, and a release is quicker to ship and to roll back.

What the second production test run fixed

Two testers used the live apps as staff and customers do and found two blockers and over a dozen serious faults. Nearly all were fixed in the release of 13 October: refunds now show on the right till, unpaid cash-on-delivery orders read as unpaid, checkout notes reach the staff, and screens say plainly when something could not load.

Every ribbon is redrawn and folds as a window narrows. Every button that did nothing yet is now built, or removed where it needed an online service. Documents gains forms, redaction and Inspect Document, Presentations can compare a reviewed copy, and Mail reads signed and encrypted mail and archives of any size.

Rutba Office 1.46 and 1.47: a PDF app, and text recognition on your own computer

A tenth app for PDFs puts pages in order without redrawing them, and since 1.49 fills forms, places a signature and redacts by removing the words from the file. Text recognition reads scans and pictures in six languages with the network off, and Mail searches old Outlook archives in place and exports them for legal hold.

Rutba Office 1.45: a screen recorder in Video, and layers and photo tools in Image

Video records your screen with your camera in a corner, and builds introduction videos scene by scene with a teleprompter, a brand kit and captions, exported for the place they are going. Image gains layers, selections, masks, a clone stamp and a healing brush, and a picture in a document, workbook or deck can be edited in Image and sent back. Checking a password no longer holds up the other windows. 1.45.0 is the first installer to carry the 1.44 work as well.

Rutba Office 1.43: a video editor with a timeline, and pages side by side

Video is now an editor with a timeline, where clips are cut and trimmed on lanes with transitions and titles between them. The finished film exports with its sound to MP4 or WebM. Image gains quick edits and tone controls such as levels and curves, and Pictures can resize or convert a whole folder at once. Documents lays its pages side by side once the window has room, as Word does. Ctrl and the mouse wheel now zoom the page in Documents, Worksheets, Presentations and Mail.

One sign-in page for everybody who works in Rutba

Everybody who works in a Rutba workspace now signs in at auth.rutba.io, including staff whose account their own workspace made for them. Those staff use the password their workspace gave them, and the workspace no longer keeps a sign-in form of its own. Invitations and password resets for their accounts are set on the same page. When the next person signs in at a shared till they get a session of their own, so nobody carries on in somebody else’s. The sign-in page also links to creating an account and to a forgotten password. Shop customers still sign in on the shop.

The check at rutba.io/sign/verify was still reading a service we had retired, so it answered that the service could not be reached, and its link to Rutba’s countersigning keys led nowhere. Both now read Rutba’s public signing service.

Rutba Office 1.40 to 1.42.1: Arabic and Hindi, with Hijri dates

Rutba Office 1.40 adds Arabic, with the frame right to left and a choice between Western and Arabic-Indic digits. In 1.41 Worksheets reads and writes Hijri date formats the way Excel does, and Calendar can show the Hijri date beside the Gregorian one. Find also matches an Arabic word however its vowel marks are written. 1.42 adds Hindi in Devanagari, with numbers grouped the Indian way. Both languages were drafted by machine and are waiting for a native speaker’s review. Documents keeps Word’s kashida justification for Arabic and applies it when a paragraph is printed or saved as PDF. 1.42.1 is the same release with installers, which 1.42.0 shipped without.

So do campaign open and click tracking, and the time clock and shop floor terminals. Rutba Books setup now starts you with a chart of accounts

The setup wizard’s chart step now seeds a starting chart of accounts and a fiscal period, with your country’s headline tax rates where Rutba holds a profile for it. Before this it recorded the step and added nothing.

Rutba Office 1.39 finishes the Urdu that 1.38 began. The messages the engines and services write for themselves are in Urdu now, and so are the names of citations and labels and the steps of a Power Query. Rutba Office 1.35 to 1.38: the whole suite in Urdu

Rutba Office 1.38 is in Urdu: every window’s words, the frame laid out right to left, and dates written the way Urdu writes them. The Urdu was drafted by machine against a glossary of the suite’s own terms and is waiting for a native speaker’s review. Before it, 1.37 moved the work on documents, workbooks and decks off the main process, so every other window answers while one is busy. 1.36 draws every one of Office’s WordArt warps and links a multilevel list to the heading styles, and 1.35 adds Pivot Column and Conditional Column to Power Query and lets scripts set widths and merge cells.

Affiliate earnings are signed off by a person, and shops can publish their own codes

In the Affiliate Program a manager now approves each sale’s earnings on a Sign-off page, with the payment and delivery checks in front of them, and a promoter sees in plain words where each sale has got to. A shop can turn that step off. Managers can also publish the shop’s own discount codes for the website, the till or both, and a shopper who arrived through a promoter’s link still counts as that promoter’s sale. When a promoter shares a product with the shop’s share button, the link now carries their referral or the code they chose.

Rota notices, tax on web orders, and Drive links on shared addresses

Publishing a rota, or moving, re-timing or cancelling a shift, now sends a notice to each person it affects, and attendance and the exceptions queue work from the rota a manager published. A taxed web order now posts its tax to the tax account in Rutba Books, where it used to be booked as shipping revenue, and loans and advances show what has been repaid after every pay run. Drive share links, Drive download links and the public check of a signed document now find their business on the shared rutba.io addresses.

Rutba Office 1.30 to 1.34: five releases in a day

Rutba Office 1.30 put right what a reading of the 1.26 to 1.29 releases found, across every app, and gave Pictures star ratings, tags and folder counts. 1.31 and 1.32 brought WordArt’s text warps to Documents, Worksheets and Presentations, along with a picture watermark and printing from what the file keeps. 1.33 records the camera with a show in Presentations, keeps templates of your own and adds four more Power Query transforms. 1.34 brings the Multilevel List gallery to Documents, Home and End to Worksheets with a grid that follows the active cell, and a performance budget every window is held to.

Both now run in production, so their pages say early access rather than coming soon, and so does the Affiliate Program inside Rutba Marketing. A shop’s affiliate programme can now pay its promoters

The Affiliate Program gained its money half. A promoter’s code or referral link works at the web checkout and at the till, each sale it brings is recorded against the promoter, and earnings clear after the shop’s return window before they reach a payout the shop exports and confirms. The back office lists codes, sales, payouts and anything flagged for review. Promoters hear about their first sale, and get a week’s warning before a code expires. A shop switches the programme on in its CMS once someone holds the affiliates role and its own contracts are filled in, and those should go past a lawyer first.

Rutba Office 1.29: Documents, Presentations and the old Microsoft files in full

Eleven releases between 6 and 8 October. Rutba Word is now Rutba Documents and Presentation is now Presentations, so the app names read the same way. Old .doc, .xls and .ppt files open in full, including ones protected the old way, and OpenDocument, RTF and HTML files come in whole. Text can run right to left in every app. Documents compares two versions of a file. Worksheets gained Excel 365 functions, Power Query and scripts that run on your own computer. Presentations gained SmartArt, video and narration, motion paths and 3D models, and Calendar and Contacts now sync with a CalDAV or CardDAV server you already use. There is a thesaurus, and Mail filters junk.

Every app in the suite now opens in production

Thirty-five apps joined the eleven that were already running, so all 46 apps in the suite now open in production, each at its own address under rutba.io and all on one sign-in. Your sign-in says which organisation’s data you are working in, so nobody needs an address of their own. Mail is at inbox.rutba.io, your workspace console at admin.rutba.io and Rutba Sign at app.sign.rutba.io, while a shop’s storefront stays on the shop’s own domain. Links that carry no sign-in, such as a delivery tracking page, a signing link, a pay link or an interview booking, find the right business by themselves. Some apps are ahead of what they need: Meet’s meeting room waits on its media server, the phone apps wait on a phone system, and Rutba Assistant has no model connected yet.

Each workspace sends its mail as itself

A workspace now has its own sender and reply-to address, set by an administrator on the Email sending page of its console. An order confirmation comes from that shop, and account mail comes from the same address. The page can send a test message and shows the mail server’s answer. Order alerts go to the people the workspace names, list the order’s items (they used to arrive empty) and link to the shop’s own storefront.

Reset your password where you sign in, and start where you left off

Someone who has a login at their company’s Rutba workspace but no Rutba account can now ask Rutba’s sign-in for a password reset with that address: the mail sets a Rutba password, and from then on it opens their workspace. Every reset only ever mails the kind of account it belongs to: a shop’s customers reset at the shop, its staff at Rutba. A new sign-in starts in the organisation you chose last time, while you are still a member of it, and a workspace on your own domain, where no browser lets the quiet check reach across sites, keeps you signed in with a round trip at most once every five minutes. Signing out now ends that sign-in completely: nothing issued to it keeps working afterwards.

At the till and the order desk: returns priced by the server, a confirmation queue and cash drops

Returns and exchanges at the till are now priced and written by the server, so a refund is never more than the sale charged and every till takes its figure from the one sale record. The till’s checkout offers the shop’s own payment methods, booked to the same ledger account as the website’s, and its report covers any period you pick, by day, cashier and payment method. An expired unit can no longer be sold, even before the nightly sweep marks it. In Orders, a To Confirm list shows the orders nobody has yet confirmed with the customer before they go out, and a confirmation records who made it; a cash-drops inbox lets accounts confirm the payments riders collected in one go; only an accounts role can mark a payment verified. The rider app keeps its offers, deliveries and availability when the signal drops, and sends them when it comes back.

Every product page read back against what is built

We read every product page on rutba.io, the comparison pages and the posts that describe the apps against the code, and changed what had drifted, in both directions. Pages that still called Procurement, Dispatch, Track, Quality, Maintenance, the Fleet app and half of the People apps unbuilt now describe them, and each product names what shipped since its page was written: procurement’s price lists, orders and spend, the dispatch exceptions queue and exchange visits, OEE and the finite schedule, careers pages, payroll’s bank file and emailed payslips. Pages that claimed more than the product does were corrected: the CRM has no quotes of its own (they are in Books), Marketing sends one-off and recurring campaigns rather than drip journeys, the storefront has no themes or abandoned-cart recovery yet, and Studio fills a template from a spreadsheet rather than from your live catalogue. Every corrected post carries the date it was updated.

Rutba Office 1.26 to 1.28: protected files, mail merge, tracked changes and themes

Three releases in two days. Password-protected Word, Excel and PowerPoint files now open and save in all three document apps, which also gained an accessibility checker and a spelling pass with a dictionary of your own. Rutba Word added mail merge with envelopes and labels, tracked changes recorded as you type, Restrict Editing, citations and a bibliography, an index and a table of figures, columns and cross-references, and fields for page numbers and dates anywhere in the text. Worksheets added PivotCharts and slicers, sparklines, Flash Fill, workbook themes and protection; Presentation added sections, the Slide Master, transitions and animations, and tables and charts on a slide; Mail added a signature per account, send later and automatic replies. And the first start after an update now always opens its window, which it did not do for everybody updating to 1.27.

One sign-in for the whole suite, and an organisation that stays chosen

Rutba’s workspaces no longer ask for a password of their own. You sign in once at Rutba, and every site, console and workspace opens on that sign-in; the organisation you chose stays chosen in every app until you switch, from a switcher in every app’s header, and a demo or test workspace carries a mark that stays on screen. Nothing about which organisation you are in travels in a link, and signing out anywhere signs you out of every app. A workspace that already held a password of its own for you is carried across by the same password, or asks for its own once and never again; changing your Rutba password changes it everywhere you are linked unless you choose otherwise. Invitations sent from the console now keep reaching the organisation’s workspace until it acknowledges them.

After signing in: what you have first, then what you could add

Signing in now takes you straight to the one thing you can open when there is only one (or to the console of the product whose site you pressed Sign in on), and otherwise to a hub laid out organisation by organisation. Each organisation shows what it has first, every workspace and console as a tile that opens it, and then, for an owner or an administrator, what it could add, read from the price list and led by the product of the site you came from. A menu beside the page lists everything you can open, every console links back to it, and a session that ended while you were away says so instead of showing an empty page.

Rutba Office: thirty-one releases in its first fortnight, on one timeline

Rutba Office went from 1.0.0 on 8 September to 1.25.0 on 21 September, and every release is now on one page at office.rutba.io, newest first: the day it shipped, the apps it touched, the changes it led with, and the notes written the day it went out. The last week alone brought pictures the words wrap round and footnotes at the foot of their page in Rutba Word, with page borders, watermarks, line numbers and multilevel lists; tables, sorting, notes, frozen panes, print areas and sheet tabs in Worksheets; and layouts, the Format Painter, footers, shadows, find and replace and links in Presentation. The pages that describe the suite were brought up to date with it.

Every price lower again, and smaller packages for Rutba Sign

A second cut in a week, across the board: every paid plan and every bundle costs between a quarter and a third less than it did on 16 September, and the rates past an allowance fell with them. Nothing was taken away to pay for it: every allowance, every feature and every free tier is what it was. Rutba Sign has two new packages between pay as you go and Agreements: Solo, for one person sending a few agreements a month, and Team, an allowance shared by a small office with up to five senders. Pay as you go now gives five envelopes a month free, and each package costs less an envelope than paying as you go would.

Signing in: a code you can scan, and a sign-in that ends where it was going

Turning on two-factor is a code you scan now, or a button on a phone, with the written-out key still there for a desktop authenticator, and the code is drawn in the page from the value you were already sent rather than fetched from anywhere. Behind it, a second factor lives in one store with its recovery codes, its replay counter and its lockout, so a settings page and a sign-in can no longer disagree about whether it is on. Two faults went with it: signing in to a console could put you back on the sign-in page with nothing wrong at your end, because a security header allowed the form but not the page it lands on; and belonging to an organization sent everybody to the customer console, including people who hold no customer account. Signing in now leaves you at the one app you hold, or at a hub where each app is a row you can click. For companies running their own Rutba, the lookup that hands a person to their own installation answers again, and answers identically for an address that does not exist.

Your deployment can say what it is running, and nothing is refused by the answer

A Rutba deployment (ours or your own) now reports what it is: its domains, its databases and which engine they are, the apps from its own manifest, and the workers beside it. The same round trip answers with what it is licensed to run. Nothing is refused by that answer: an app running that nobody bought, or seats past what was paid for, is recorded, notified and billed only where somebody has chosen that, and the deployment carries on serving. One setting refuses service, it is set deliberately on one deployment or one customer, and nothing defaults to it. Support can now see which version you run and which hostnames answer without asking you for screenshots, and an app or database that stops being reported is kept and marked missing rather than deleted.

Rutba Office 1.14 and 1.15: a folder of thousands, and printing what you see

Pictures was rebuilt for the folder people actually have. A tile is a thumbnail made once and kept, a clip’s tile is a frame rather than a running player, the grid and filmstrip draw only the rows in view, and the stage holds the picture you are on until the next has decoded, so a folder of five thousand costs about what a folder of fifty costs. With nothing open, the folder fills the window with its own contents, counted by kind. In 1.15, a picture that floats beside a paragraph on screen now prints beside it too, in print and in PDF, moving whole to the next page when it will not fit. A worksheet’s hyperlinks are read, followed with Ctrl+click and set with Ctrl+K, a cell with a note wears its corner and shows it on hover, Get mail is F5, and every Help tab opens a page that exists.

Every price cut, and the shop no longer pays per person

A full price review, and most of it is a reduction: every paid plan is lower, and the bundles are lower by a lot: the Everything bundle, all nine business products, now costs less per user than most suites charge for one. Rutba Commerce, Inventory and Orders have stopped being priced per user, which was the wrong unit for a shop: they are bought by the business on the orders it takes, with unlimited staff, unlimited registers, and no share of a sale taken whichever payment provider you use. Signing is cheaper and the rate now falls the more you send, with the first three envelopes each month free, and there is a free tier of the Relay. Allowances are published as numbers rather than adjectives, and the prices on every Rutba site now come from one record, so no two pages can quote different figures for the same plan again.

Rutba Assistant on the blog: how it is built, and what it does in each part of a business

Twenty new posts. Six explain how Rutba Assistant is built: it has no account of its own, every answer lists the calls it made, a report’s figures are never typed by a model, a refusal says who can fix it, anything that changes records runs as a plan a person approved, and an assistant you already use comes in through the same door. Ten more take one area of a business at a time (the books, the stock room, people, customers, deliveries, the factory floor, marketing, conversations, facilities and signatures), with the real calls it makes to answer and the places it hands back to a person. The assistant is not released yet, and every post says so. Also new: the Relay’s hourly publishing ceiling, a stricter check on common passwords, update notices in every Rutba Office window, and a ruler in Rutba Word that moves things. Stamps, seals and notarisation: arranged, at cost

Where a jurisdiction wants more than signatures, the formality is now declared on the envelope and satisfied one of two ways. Arrange it yourself and file the reference as proof: free, because it is evidence and evidence is not what we charge for. Or ask Rutba to arrange it, and a person books it with a notary or registrar: $9 handling plus their fee at cost, quoted before anything is committed and passed through unmarked. Rutba never notarises or affixes anything itself; it arranges, records the reference, and puts it where a court can find it.

Rutba Manufacturing: real MRP, work centres, and a shop-floor terminal

Manufacturing shipped M1 to M4 of the production program on 2026-09-02 and 2026-09-03: bill-of-material versions with effectivity and pinned release, work centres with calendars, a regenerative MRP run with pegging and firming and a work-order timeline, and a shop-floor terminal (a paired tablet clocks an operator on by PIN, hands them the dispatch list for the bench, and drains its offline queue when the network returns). The price is unchanged; the value is not.

Rutba Facilities: one register of everything the organisation owns

A new listing in the Business Suite. One asset register the whole organisation reads from: HR issues laptops from it, the accountant depreciates from it, facilities schedules on it. Custody is insert-only, so who had a thing and when it was returned is a record rather than an argument. Sites, buildings, spaces, contracts and licences are M0 to M3 and shipped; the maintenance work engine is M4 and next. Early access at $9 and $19 per user.

Bundles pick up the new products

Facilities joins the Operations bundle (now $135, was $119; three products became four) and Everything (nine products, still $249). The Everything price is unchanged; the parts total went up, so the saving is bigger even though the number stays 35% for defensibility. Manufacturing (Katana, MRPeasy, Fishbowl) is the focused MRP-for-makers shortlist; every entry names where the competitor is better first, and none of ours claims to replace their ecosystem. The engine behind Rutba Sign is now a product in its own right: create and send envelopes over a REST API with scoped keys and signed webhooks, and collect the same sealed, hash-chained evidence record the application produces. Verification stays free, public and permanent: no key and no account. The envelope rate is identical to the application tier, because it is the same envelope arriving through a different door.

Prices cut across Workspace, Books and People

A review against what the market publishes moved three prices, all downward. The Workspace bundle (mail, files, documents, chat, meetings and signing) is now $11 per user per month, from $24. Rutba Books is $14 and $32, from $26 and $59. Rutba People is $8, $13 and $19 per employee, from $12, $18 and $28. Existing quotes are honoured at the lower figure; nobody pays more than the advertised price.

Rutba Sign: agreements executed with evidence

Send agreements for signature by link, to people who need no account, and get back a sealed record of the whole ceremony: who was invited, how they proved who they were, what they saw, in what order, and that not one byte has moved since. The record is hash-chained, sealed, and carries a timestamp from a public authority. Anyone holding a completed package can verify it without an account, without paying, and without trusting us, permanently. Listed as coming soon because it cannot yet be bought on its own; organizations on a Rutba licence can use it today.

Docusign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, PandaDoc and SignNow, plus four head-to-heads between them. Written to the same rules as the rest of the section: sourced to what each vendor publishes, dated, no prices reproduced, and every page naming where the other product is better. In this group that includes the fact that all five ship today and ours cannot be bought standalone yet.
