Nothing creates the attendance row
The rota says who should have been there and the payslip says who got paid. Between them is a spreadsheet, a WhatsApp message and somebody’s memory — and every hour of overtime is an hour a person typed.
Overtime is discovered at the end of the month
By which time it is a cost you can only pay, not a decision you could have made. The shift that ran long was visible on the day to exactly one person.
Nobody can say what a site or a department costs
Payroll posts as one lump. Asking what the night shift cost, or what one branch spent on labour, is a reconstruction rather than a query.

The clock is the source
A shared wall device — badge or PIN, with an offline queue for when the network is not there, and no biometrics and no location tracking by design. It creates the attendance row that nothing else in the chain was creating.
Attendance is derived, not maintained
Present against late is computed from the rostered shift and its grace period; worked hours are the clocked span minus the break; a check-out before a check-in is read as an overnight shift rather than as an error.
Payroll reads it, and the ledger receives it
The pay run is calculated from recorded hours, and the accrual posts split by the cost centre on each employee’s pay profile — so a department can be asked what its people cost, from the same accounts the P&L is drawn from.
The chain, end to end
Each step writes to the same records the next step reads. There is no export between them, which is why there is nothing to reconcile afterwards.
