That is the commodity half. The half worth building is an inbox that knows your business: a message from a customer filed against the person, contact, customer or order it concerns, and a To box that knows your CRM contacts.

Hosted email at your own domain is a solved, competitive, largely undifferentiated market. Mailboxes, spam filtering, IMAP, a web client: every provider has them and most do them well. Nobody needs another one of those.
What is genuinely missing is smaller and more specific. A customer emails about an order. The message belongs with that customer (next to their orders and their tickets), and in most businesses it stays in one person’s inbox instead, where nobody else who answers that customer will ever see it.
The message, filed against the customer
Rutba Mail files a message against the person, the CRM contact, the customer or the order it concerns, so it turns up on that record rather than being copy-pasted into another system. Writing works the other way round: the To box suggests your CRM contacts as well as your own mail contacts.
This only works because the customer record is not in a different product. It is the same argument as the CRM post, arriving from the other direction: the reason a mail client can file a message against a customer is that the customer is not somewhere else.
And the ordinary half is genuinely ordinary

- A web client, plus IMAP for Outlook, Apple Mail, or a phone. Your mail is not trapped in our interface.

IMAP is on that list deliberately. A business email product without it is a product betting you will never want to leave, and that bet is one a buyer should notice being made.

The free desktop suite includes a mail application that opens .pst and .ost archives locally, with no account and no server. That is a different thing from this: it reads mail you already have, on your machine, and sends nothing anywhere.
Rutba Mail is hosting: mailboxes we run at your domain. Neither requires the other, and the desktop one stays free.
