The link is the only thing protecting your document. Anyone you send it to can open and change it, and it cannot be revoked.
Then it is deleted

Per document
Enough for a real workbook. Bigger files, version history and sharing that follows your team need an account.
Do not put confidential files here. There are no accounts in the sandbox, so there is nothing to check anyone against — whoever has the link can open and change the document, and there is no record of who did. Payroll, customer lists and anything under a contract belong in an account, where sharing follows your team and every version is kept.
