Compare / Head to head
NetSuite vs Dynamics 365 Business Central
The two mid-market ERP incumbents. The honest deciding factor is usually not the software — it is whether your organisation already runs on Microsoft.
Checked 1 September 2026
We are not a neutral party, and you should read this knowing that. Rutba makes software that competes with both products on this page, and there is a section about us at the bottom. Everything above it is written from what each vendor publishes about their own product, dated, with no prices reproduced and nothing said about anyone’s roadmap, finances or customers. If we have described either product incorrectly, tell us and we will correct it and say that we did.
The actual decision
What you are really choosing between.
Whether you are buying an ERP or extending a platform you have already standardised on. Both are capable; they fail differently and they cost differently.
NetSuite
Oracle
A cloud ERP covering financials, inventory, order management, CRM and commerce, aimed at mid-market and upper mid-market companies, sold with an implementation engagement.
Dynamics 365 Business Central
Microsoft
Microsoft’s mid-market ERP — financials, supply chain, sales and service — generally deployed with a partner and sitting alongside Microsoft 365 for the workspace and Power Platform for extension.

Head to head
Where they actually differ.
Only the rows that differ. A comparison table padded with things both products do equally well is a table designed to be long rather than useful.
| NetSuite | Dynamics 365 Business Central | |
|---|---|---|
| Financial depth | Multi-subsidiary consolidation, revenue recognition and statutory reporting across jurisdictions, in the core product. | Strong mid-market financials; the largest consolidation cases usually reach for more. |
| How you buy it | Through an implementation engagement, effectively always. | Overwhelmingly through a Microsoft partner, with some self-serve entry. |
| What it assumes you already have | Nothing in particular; it is its own world. | Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, and it is much better value if you have them. |
| Extension model | SuiteScript and the SuiteCloud platform. | AL extensions and the Power Platform — a larger skills market. |
| Reporting | Built-in, capable, and its own idiom to learn. | Power BI, which many organisations already run. |
| The real cost | The implementation is frequently larger than the first year of licences. | Licence arithmetic across tiers, plus Microsoft 365 underneath, plus a partner retainer. |
Which to pick
Real reasons on both sides.
A matchup where one option never wins is not a comparison, and every reader can tell.
Choose NetSuite if…
- You have multiple subsidiaries and genuinely consolidate
- Revenue recognition or multi-jurisdiction statutory reporting is a requirement rather than a wish
- You are preparing for audit, investment or listing and want the depth on record
- You are not a Microsoft organisation and gain nothing from being one
Choose Dynamics 365 Business Central if…
- Your identity, your email and your reporting already run on Microsoft
- You have a Microsoft partner you trust
- Power BI is where your reporting lives and is staying
- Procurement is easier when the vendor is already approved
And now the part where we talk about ourselves
Where Rutba fits, on the same axes.
Constrained to what the comparison above actually examined. If neither product was measured on something, we do not get to win it here.
Neither of these can be bought without a project
That is the row worth noticing. Both are sold through implementations, and for a business of a couple of hundred people the project is often the reason the decision never happens. Rutba is bought through a checkout and most services provision in minutes.
Both stop at the business and assume the workspace
NetSuite has no workspace; Business Central expects Microsoft 365 beside it. Rutba includes mail, files, documents and chat, and they log back to the record they concern.
Where we are behind both
Financial depth. If you need multi-subsidiary consolidation or revenue recognition, NetSuite has them and we do not — that is on our own comparison page for NetSuite in as many words.

The pillar
Rutba vs NetSuite
The mid-market enterprise incumbent. Deeper than us in finance, and bought through an implementation rather than a checkout.
The pillar
Rutba vs Dynamics 365 Business Central
The default when the business already runs on Microsoft. The comparison is really about how many Microsoft licences the whole picture needs.
